USED PIPING
TO DAMAGE PREMISES ARREST IN WELLINGTON About ten o’clock last night a man, using a piece of piping, broke six of the windows of the Union Clothing Company's premises on the corner of Cuba and Ghuznee Streets. About 20 different blows were apparently directed against the windows, all of which were in Ghuznee Street. Altogether there are six windows on the affected side, which occupy a total space of about 6 5 feet. The extent of the damage is estimated to be near £l6O. At the time the act was committed there was a big crowd in the vicinity and eye-witnesses stated that after breaking the windows the man wait.ed to be arrested. The man is alleged to have said that he was unemployed and that the reason for his action was that he wanted to be fed by the police. ' As Friday is observed as the late night for closing retail premises the last employee of the firm had left just a few minutes before the damage occurred. On being advised of the happening when this employee reached his home he immediately returned, and other members of the staff were summoned to clear the windows of the articles displayed. As a result of the window-break-ing, a middle-aged man, John Male,: will appear in the Police Court today charged with the offence.
