Will Not Contest Mayoralty
The Mayor (Mr R. McLean), interviewed this morning, informed a “Press" representative that he did not intend to be a candidate lor the mayoral office at the forthcoming municipal elections. Mr McLean has been mayor of Waipukurau ever since 1927, having succeeded the late Mr E. A. Goodger (1919-1927). Takapau Tennis Club The Takapau Tennis Club held another of its popular dances on Monday night in the Town Hall. Mr J. Bryce, Waipukurau, supplied the music and gave every satisfaction, while Mr C. Olsen acted as M.C. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies. Stole Postal Note A Christchurch man aged thirty-two, pleaded guilty to the theft, of a 5s postal note, the property of his sister. The charge was dismissed under section 18 of the Offenders Probation Act. Chi of-Detective Carroll said that the complaint was laid by accused’s sister. She gave a letter containing the postal note, and addressed to a solicitor, to her brother to post. When it did not reach its destination inquiries were made by the Postal Department and the police. The accused was interviewed and admitted that he had not posted the letter. Had he told his sister he had taken the money no complaint would have been made, but, once made, it had to go through the regular channels. His sister did not wish the case to be gpno on with.
