Mr J. Broad, who has been relieving at the Bank of New Zealand, Waipawa, left yesterday morning for Otaki, to take up a similar position with the Bank of New Zealand there.

Miss M. McCormick, of Waipukurau, who has been the guest of Mr and Mi’s F. .T. Williams, of Woodville, for a short time, left on Wednesday on a visit to New Plymouth.

At the meeting of the Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board this morning a resolution of sympathy with Mrs G. Smales and family in their recent bereavement was carried in silence.

A Press Association, message from Gisborne to-day announces the death of Robert Thelwall, aged 93, a well-known veteran bowler who arrived in New Zealand in 1865. He settled in the Gisborne district, taking part' in the military operations against Te Kooti.

The funeral of the late Mrs E. J. Hayes took place at the Waipukurau cemetery to-day, Mr W. 800 l conducting the service at St. Mary’s Church and at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs B. J. Atkins, and P. R Smyrk (representing the Waipawa Hospital Board), Messrs E. Raynor, E. Petersen, A. .Tones, and W. Russell (representing the staff).

At the opening of the meeting of the Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board this morning the Chairman (Mr A. C. Russell) extended a hearty welcome to Mr A. W S. Longley, the new member, and congratulated the members who had been returned unopposed. Mr Russell also expressed regret that Mr W. Malenoir was i? not again a member of the board.
