A penalty award to the Countryenabled that team to enter the opposing team’s confines. A good passing movement in midfield went astray as the result of a Town wing (Gurran) getting ahead of the three-quarter lino. At this stage the game was held up momentarily in consequence of McCarthy being injured. Country handled well, but Hanita passed infield rather wildly. However a forward. ,evasion followed and Tremewan scored near a corner. The attempt to convert by, Boss failed. . , , ■ . Country 3 Town 0 A passing movement by the Country backs went astray and the Town rearguard looked dangerous for a brief interval. Curran was collrcd in possession and the Country forwards packed solidly to good purpose. From a free-kick 40 yards out, Richardson essayed to goal, but the ball went wide. A few minutes later Cochrane relieved the Country by a good live kick. Practically unoposed, two Country players broke through and Tremewan passed to Cochrane, who scored unopposed. Hanita goaled with ease from a close range. Country 8 Town O Tuki Logan took the place of McCarthy in the five-eight section, the latter having to leave the field as the result of the injury he had sustained. Hard pressed, the Town teain found relief from a good line kick by Rupuhu. A passing effort resulted in Cochrane scoring. Hanita converted. Country 13 Town O On resuming, the Town team attempted a passing attack, but Logan lost possession ’ere progressing far. Smith and Brain were prominent in a forward onslaught by the Town vanguard. Smales opened up an attack by punting high, but into the hands of Nope, who lined to good purpose at half-way. The Country backs combining well reached the Town 25, where Rupuhu lined at half-way. The Country players were showing themselves as superior in all departments and a fine passing effort saw Cochrane again run across, near a corner. Hanita was unable to convert. Country 16 Town 0 A high long range punt was fielded in

good style by Bell, who lined well. Gurran who had been hesitant on several occasions failed to field the leather on his wing and the Country forwards gained ground along the line. There was a bright movement provided when Cochrane obtained possession in the Countrf 25 and evaded half-a-dozen opponents, but holding the ball over-long was downed in midfield.. At this stage, half-time was sounded. THE C.H.B.
