Women and Wage-tax.
“That the Government be asked to review the position in regard to the wages tax collected from women workers in cases where they are compelled to pay a wages tax equivalent to that paid by male workers, as under the present Act they cannot receive any relief when they are out of employment,” was a remit submitted to the Farmers’ Executive at Wellington from Taranaki recently. The chairman, Mr W. J. Polson, said that if the remit were adopted there would not be enough money for relief purposes, and there would be a danger of the scheme breaking down. The remit was withdrawn.
