EMPIRE DAY
SYDNEY CELEBRATION
GOVERNOR LOUDLY CHEERED By Telegraph —Copyright —Press Assn, SYDNEY, May 24. The Empire Day celebrations in Sydney to-day were marked by an impressive ceremony in Martin Place in the vicinity of the Cenotaph. Enthusiasm commenced when the Governor, Sir Philip Game, appeared and mounted the platform. Cheer upon cheer burst from 10,000 people, only to be renewed in increasing volume when he began to speak. A resolution pledging the citizens to eat, drink, wear, and use Australian and Empire products was carried with enthusiasm. Prominent citizens as well as Ministers of the Crown, clergymen, and members of the judiciary, addressed the gathering. The police band led the singing. Mr. M. L. Schmitt, New Zealand Government Commissioner, was among those present. Visiting English Rugby players placed a wreath on the Cenotaph, as did the officers of the visting Japanese training squadron.
