BIG ENTRY’ OF CATTLE
BUT DEMAND VERY POOR
There was a large yarding of cattle, mostly dairy sorts, at the Waipukurau stock sale to-day, but the demand was poor. Prime fat cows met a very low market. There was a large entry of wcancr Jersey heifers, the greater part of which wasi passed in. The entry of sheep was rather small, and prices were about on a par with recent rates. Ewes’ 2-th to 4-year, in lamb, sold quite well up to 13s. 9d. Fat Cattle A pen of 8 light prime young Hereford cows passed at £2 ss; 2 prime heifers and one prime cow sold for £3 14s; 3 prime heifers £3 12s; 8 medium prime P.A. heifers, good quality line, passed at £2 19s; 4 prime young Hereford cows sold at £3; 8 medium prime P.A. heifers passed at £2 19s; 2 medium prime bullocks brought £4 10s. Young Cattle A draft of 35 m.s. wcancr P.A. steers of good quality sold at 295; 5 yearling steers, poor quality, 12s; a draft of good quality Jersey calves (marked) on account of Messrs Trotter Bros., Fcilding, passed at £2; a similar draft on account of another vendor passed at £2 6s; 50 Jersey calves, not quite such good quality, passed at £1 10s; 35 wcancr Jersey heifers, passed at £1 17s Gd; 22 ditto passed at £1 15s; a. line of 13 yearling Jersey heifers brought £2 Gs; other lots sold at £1 Gs Gd, £l, £1 10s, £1 16s, and £1 12s. Dairy Cattle Four springing heifers due. to calve August, passed at £4 12s Gd; 5 3-year Jersey heifers brought £3 10s; 6 Red Poll heifers in calf to Bed Poll hull, a. nice line £3 17s Gl; 6 18-months Jersey heifers £2 ss; 1 Hostein and one Jersey cross heifer, ,in ealf to Jersey bull, put out in October, passed at £3 10s; 3 good Jersey-Holstein cross heifers in calf, due to calve in August, passed at £4 12s; 4 Jersey cross springing heifers,- passed at £3 ss; 5 good Jersey cross heifers in calf to pedigree Jersey bull, passed at £4 12s Gd; 1 2year Jersey heifer in calf to pedigree bull, a well bred beast, made £5 ss; 5 ditto passed at £4 15s; 1 cow, in ealf, due July, passed at £4; 1 cow duo to calve September 12 (fourth calf) passed at £2 15s. Fat Sheep A pen of 17 medium weight ewes, brought 8s 7d; 62 prime wethers passed at 12s; 12 medium prime wethers passed at, Ils; 76 medium lambs passed at. 10s 3d. Store Sheep A pen of 2,4, 6 and 8-tooth ewes (60 8-th) off high country r.w. Romney rams since March 14, sold at 13s 9d; 167 2,4, 6 and 8-tooth owes r.w. S.D. rams from January 16th to March 16. Romney rams from March .16 toMay 1, 13s; 177 4 and 5-ycar ewes r.w. Romney rams since March 26, 10s lOd; 175 ditto 10s 4d; 255 4-year ewes r.w. S.D. rams from February 15 to May 16, passed at 11s fid; 159 8-th ewes passed at 2s 6d; 80 4 and 5-ycar owes; r.w. S.D. rams since March 1, passed at 8s 3d; 111 empty aged ewes, ffiarlo 6s sd; 42 medium 2-tooth wethers 10s; 51 do. 10s lOd; 53 4 and 5-ycar ewes, r.w. Romney ram since March 16, 10s 8d; 80 forward owe lambs 12s; 49 aged ewes, off turnips, 5s sd; 12 aged wethers, also off turnips, 11s 2d; 50 medium wether lambs passed at 8s 3d; 50 good shorn ewe lambs Ils 6d; 44 ewe lambs off turnips, Ils 4d; 67 forward wether lambs 9s 4d.
