THE PHILLIPAR FIRE

MYSTERIOUS ALARMS.

FIRE APPARATUS EMPTY.

PARIS, May 2 3

Captain Vicq’s supplementary report discloses that the electric alarm communicating with the bullion room mysteriously sounded the first time eight days before the disaster and a second time half an hour before the fire. Officers immediately inspected the bullion and on both occasions found no signs of tampering.

Captain Vicq adds that some of the fire fighting appartus curiously proved to be empty when the fire started. Captain Vicq inspected all the first and second class cabins accessible before leaving the ship and found nobody. He spent the whole morning superintending the rescue of survivors.—“Times” cable.
