TAKAPAU SOCIAL
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
CELEBRATES THIRD BIRTHDAY.
(From Our Own Correspondent).
The Takapau Women’s Institute celebrated its third birthday on Friday night, the gathering being so large that it became necessary to adjourn to the large hall. There were delegates from kindred institutes, with visitors and many friends, presided over by Mrs A. J. Campbell in the absence of Mrs. W. Jackson, who has been indisposed for a few weeks.
Regret was expressed as to the
president’s illness, by the officer presiding, and at the request of the Institute a letter of sympathy is to be sent wishing her a speedy recovery. In opening the proceedings Mrs Campbell expressed appreciation as to such a large number being present who had no doubt come to enjoy and indulge with them in what might be called one of their primary birthdays. She extended to all a hearty welcome and hoped that none would go away disappointed. The programme was very extensive and afforded much pleasure. There were songs, recitations and a playette by the members. The items were supplied by Mrs A. E. Bayliss, Mrs A. Jackson, Miss Kilford and Miss F. Vesty; Messrs D. McMillan and Lam-
bourne. Mr Thomson, the editor of the “New Zealander” gave a very interesting and helpful address. During the proceedings the birthday cake was cut by three of the youngest members and the oldest member, in Mrs. J. Douglass, who has just recently observed her golden wedding The cake was presented by the president. Dancing was indulged in until early morning, the music being supplied by the members and friends of the institute, and the function was declared one of the most successful ever held in Takapau.
