Mrs C. Nettlcfold, of Danncvirke, who was accompanied by Miss M. Cameron, Levin, paid a visit to Waipukurau yesterday.

Mrs H. XI. Kcir and her daughter, who had been on a visit to Wellington for the school holiday period returned to Waipukurau yesterday.

Mr J. C. Hall has been transferred by the Hawke’s Bay Education Board from, the position of. head teacher, Makauri, to head teacher, Tikokino.

The Hawke’s Bay Education Board has appointed Miss J. A. Kerr as an assistant teacher in the Waipukurau District High School, and Miss D. A. Davy to the post of assistant at Opapa.

Flying-Officer A. G. Gerrand, late Royal Australian Air Force, has been appointed pilot-instructor to the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club and leaves Sydney by the Marama on May 27 to take up his duties. Fly-ing-Officer Gerrand has completed 1100 hours’ flying in all types of aircraft, and is classified Al both as an instructor and also in civil aviation, a distinction held by very few pilots. He has flown in every Australian State, and was one of those despatched in search of both Kingsford-Smith and Keith Anderson when these airmen were forced down in remote corners of the Continent. He has the reputation of always bringing his machine home in excellent flying condition, and the club is tq be congratulated on securing the services of a most competent pilot.

The President of the Horticultural Trades: Association, Mr J. N. McLeod. N.D.H.'\(N.Z.), of Christchurch; with Mr Geo. A. Green, secretary and organiser, of Auckland, who have been spending a few. days in Hawke’s Bay in connection with' the operations of the association, passed through Waiptikurau. to-day on route for New Plymouth Both gentlemen spoke appreciatively of conditions in Hawke’s Bay. The stocks of fruit trees, shrubs, and roses, have never been better. The proident is making his first trip through the North Island since his installation in the office. .During his tour he intends to make a point of visiting all points of interest in the North Island. including- the Taranaki. Rotorua, Waikato. Auckland and North Auckland districts.
