Wellington Relief Workers IMPROVEMENT IN SCALE ' ' r NEW GRANT TO BE MADE (Per>Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The relief workers’ strike was officially declared oft' at a meeting- of delegates this morning. “As a result of representations made to Mr. Coates and promises given,’’ said Mr. Bella, chairman of the strike committee, later, “we have definitely agreed that a small improvement in the scale of pay will be supplemented by rations, though the extent of the benefit gained is unknown till Mr. Coates’ new grant comes into operation.’’ A mass meeting carried votes of thanks to Mr. Fraser, M.P., for th» splendid way, he, had attended to our wants; to Mr,s. Snow for assistance in the soup kitchen; and to the Alliance of Labour and the Trades and Labour Council for the use of halls and services rendered. The relief workers’ organisation set up during the strike has not been disbanded owing, it was stated, to relief operations still carrying on.
