Bullocks and Cycles.

A number of Otaki residents who witnessed parachute descents from a plane at Otaki yesterday will have cause to remember the occasion in more ways than one. A mob of over 100 bullocks, which was being driven along the road, became almost inextricably mixed up in the cars that lined the- roads and bicycles that had been left lying on the grass. The result was damaged mudguards and tail lights, while cloven hoofs broke through innumerable spokes in the bicycle wheels. Jury Verdicts The duty o£ the court in regard to the vedlcts of juries was touched upon by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, in a reserved judgment delivered in Wellington recently. His Honour said he was dissatisfied with the verdict of the jury in regard to two particular matters in the case. Still, it was the duty of the court to accept the verdict of the jury unless the finding was one which no 12 men could reasonably come to. He had no right to set aside the .verdict of the jury merely because he'might feel that he himself would have come to a different decision.
