Miss Peggy Williams, of Christchurchj is at present the guest of Mrs Gordon Williams, Otane, Hawke’s Bay.
The Pope recently gave an audienco to Archbishop Redwood (Wellington), to whom he presented a gold medal. He congratulated the Archbishop on his long life in the Church’s service.
The King has been graciously pleased to approve the appointment of the Hon. Joseph Lyons, Prime Minister of Australia, to be a member of his Majesty’s Privy Council.
The Rev. C. V. Bianchi, who a f<-w years ago was attached to the parish of St. John at To Rehunga, has been appointed vicar to St. Peter’s, Pahiatua.
Mr Ramsay MacDonald, after spending some time at Downing Street on Tuesday, travelled by night train to Lossiemouth to complete his convalescence. He will be away about three weeks, returning for the conference which opens on June 16. —Wireless. Sir Michael Myers, Chief ■ Justice, leaves Wellington for Napier to-day to attend a sitting of the Hawke’s Bay Adjustment Court. Afterwards his Honour will preside at the quarterly sessions cf the Supreme Court m Napier. He will then go on to Gisborne for the quarterly sessions tlmre. The engagement is announced of Foggy Joan, only child of the late Captain T. A. Williams, R.N., C.8.E., and the late ZUrs Williams, of Devonport, England, and Henry Brian Ward, only son of Sir Francis Boys, K.8.E.. and Lady Boys, of Christchurch. Miss Williams is of Christchurch and Mr Boys, of Waipukurau. The Waipukurau Borough Council has reappointed Mr J. Gardner, whoso services as borough inspector and overseer were recently dispensed with as part of economy meaures, to the positions of health inspector, .also inspector of buildings, plumbing, drainage and water reticulaion, at a salary of £lOO nor annum.
