BOXING IN AMERICA
CALIFORNIAN WELTERWEIGHTS YOUNG CORBETT 111 ■ SAN FRANCISCO, May 17. Young Corbett, the third, of Fresno, still is the best welterweight in California. Whatever claim Vcarl Whitehead of Los Angeles, had to the distinction faded when Corbett defeated him in ten fast rounds last night in the feature fight of the Disabled War Veterans’ Institute show at the Exposition auditorium.
Corbett’s advantage was decisive. Whitehead acknowledged that Corbett had whipped him when they shook hands at the conclusion of the tenth round.
