Th death occurred at Stratford last night of Mr Jonas Masters, aged 7G, founder -of the firm of Masters, Ltd., and father of the Hon. Robert Masters, Minister of Education.

Miss Vercoe, who has been on tho staff of the Waipukurau Hospital for "some years left yesterday for Nelson, where, as previously mentioned in the. “Press” has accepted a position in tho Nelson Hospital.

Mr W. C. Neil has been appointed to the position of agricultural instructor at the Napier Boys’ High School, commencing his duties at the beginning of the second term on May 23. Mr Neil who has an excellent scholastic and athletic record, comes to Napier from Rotorua.

The newly appointed Matron of the Pukcora Sanatorium, Miss A. 0. Inglis, has arrived in Waipukurau, having travelled from New Plymouth, and has taken over her duties. Miss A. L. Lundon, the former Matron, who has returned to her home town, Auckland, is at present relieving matron of the St. Helen’s Hospital, Gisborne.

Nurse Cullen of the Waipukurau Hos-pital-'staff has passed the Hospital examination which was conducted by Dr. Fisher and Sister F. K. Anderson. Nurse Cullen, with five other nurses sitting for their State examination for the second time, will go to Dannevirko on June 1 and 2.

Mr Leonard Cronin has been appointed editor of the New Zealand Tablet,” says a. Press Association telegram from Dunedin. Mr Cronin was at one time on the literary staff of the “New Zealand Times” and later on the “Sun,” Auckland, and has acted as Parliamentary reporter to the “Otago Daily Times” and the “Hawke’s Bay Herald.”

The Matron (Miss Drummond) of the Waipukurau Public Hospital reported as follows to the Waipawa Hospital Board which met to-day:—• “It was decided to appoint Sister B. Black for Sister Vercoe’s vacancy. There were many applications. Sister Black was trained in this hospital; Since then she has been on the staff of tho Waikato Hospital, Stratford Hospital and the Rathbone Home.” The appointment was formally confirmed by the Board, on the motion cf Messrs Atkins and Matthews.

The death occurred at his residence, Otaraia, Martinborough, on Saturday morning, of Mr Arthur Martin. Deceased had been in ill-health for a number of years, but his illness took an acute turn quite recently. Born in Martinborough, 68 years ago, Mr Martin was a son of the late Mr John Martin, the pioneer settler of Martinborough. who laid out the present town. He leaves a wife and. one son (Mr Harry Martin.- Martinborough) and two daughters, Mrs David Warren, Turanganui, Pirinoa, and Mrs R. C. Bidwill, Napier, a brother (Mr W. J. Martin, Huangarua), and two sisters (Mrs Tweed, Wellington, who is now in Honolulu), and Mrs M. B. Cameron ■1 k w ■ (Wellington). Another son, Mr Chas. Martin, died about four years ago. Mr W. .' Mayor of' Martinbo'r-; ough, is a nephew.
