WIMBLEDON NOTES
EAST COAST RUGBY (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wainui notched their second win on Saturday at Porangahau by defeating Wanderers by 6 to nil. Though the game was very closely contested, Wainui dropped at least 10 points through their inability to put the ball over the bar from very easy positions. Porangahau drew with Weber on the latter’s ground, which was a sea of mud, no score resulting. A very pleasing aspect of football this season is the comparative absence of free kicks, a result no doubt of the missing wing-forward. Forth-coming Bazaar Much enthusiasm is being shown by the promoters for the success of the bazaar to be held on Friday in aid of the Melanesian Mission. Gifts of all kinds are rolling in and the show of produce, needlework and confections promises to be quite impressive. I am told everything is to be priced very low' to suit the times and all the committeee needs to make a success is a fine day. Excessive Rainfall ” The weather continues to be wet generally and an unpleasant reminder of the coming winter been in evidence in a cold southerly for some days. The rapid growth of pastures is now checked and the ground is w-ater-logged everywhere, No less than 32 inches of rain has fallen here since January Ist.
