Mr R. Dawson, who has been spending a brief holiday in Auckland, returned to Waipukurau this afternoon.

Mr Herbert Gideon Fletcher, a wellknown member of the Palmerston North legal fraternity, passed away at his residence,-Victoria Avenue, on Saturday.

Nurse Grace Mills, of Dr. Montague Lascelles’ osteopathic hospital, Palmerston North, who has been on a holiday visit to Waipukurau as the guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs D. R. Mills, has resumed duty.

The Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. H. W. Williams, and Mrs Williams. of Napier, who have been visiting relatives and friends in the Poverty Bay district, have gone to Opotiki. Tho Rev. Dr. Lauchlan Mac Lean minister of Glasgow Cathedral, was a passenger by the Maunganui, which arrived yesterday from Sydney. For the past three months Mr Mae-Lean-Watt has been preaching at the Scots Church, Melbourne, and is nowon his -way back to England. Mr F. B. Logan, (chairman of the Hawke’s Bay County Council) is not seeking re-appointment to his position on the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board as a representative of tho Hawke’s Bay county, was farewolled yesterday afternoon by the chairman of the board. Reference to tho death of Mr Solomon Abrahams was made by the Mayor at last night’s meeting of the Palmerston North City Council when a motion of sympathy with the widow and son, was passed, councillors standing in silence. The Mayor recalled that deceased had been Mayor of Palmerston north for two years —1887-89 —and had been a councillor for seven years —1884 -86. 1897-1900 and 1905-07. One of his chief virtues had been to help those in distress. The council also placed on record deceased’s valuable services to the city- in its pioneering days. A pretty wedding took place in the Norsewood Church of .England on May 11. when Mr John Legarth, second son of the Rev. J. Legarth and Mi’s Legarth, of South Norsewood, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Ila. Murray, only daughter of Airs W. Murray of North Norsewood. The marriage ceremony was solemnised by the Rev. Klingender, of Ormondville. There was a largo attendance of friends find guests present at the church. At the conclusion of the ceremony, tho bridal party and the guests adjourned to tho Town. Hall where a dainty wedding breakfast had been prepared, The usual toasts wore proposed and honoured. Tho wedding presents were both valuable and useful. The bride and bridegroom left in the afternoon on their honeymoon. Thoiy future homo will bo at Norsewood.
