STERN MEASURES
Against P. and T. Association
MANY PRIVILEGES WITHDRAWN
“THE KATIPO” BANNED
(Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day.
It is announced to-day that the Government has withdrawn its recognition of the Post and Telegraph Employees’ Association, and consequently the following privileges are no longer available to the Association or its members: —Collection of subscriptions by the Department, for which a charge was made; the right of delegates to attend meetings of the Association on full pay up to ten days in each year; right of paid officers to enter upon the Post Office properties to see the stall and discuss conditions; right to put Association notices up in the post offices; right of representatives and the right of the Asso-
ciation to represent the employees case to the Department and the Ministry.
The possibility of other Civil Service organisations receiving the same treatment as the Post and Telegraph Employees’ Association cannot be overlooked.
It was ascertained this morning that the Government is watching the position very closely, and it will not hesitate to take action should circumstances warrant it.
In the case of the P. and T.
Employees’ Association it was felt by the Government that an intolerable position had arisen.
It was absolutely impossible to carry on under such conditions, said one member of the Government to-day.
The Post and Telegraph journal “The Katipo,” will no longer be permitted in post offices.
