WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

(From Our Own Correspondent) On Friday afternoon the usual monthly meeting of the Onga Onga Women’s Institute was held in the hall. Mrs. E. Bibby presided over a large number of members. After the singing of the Institute song, the members expressed their sympathy to the relatives of Mrs. Harwood (a former Women’s Institute member) by standing in silence for a few moments. A considerable

amount of correspondence was read and discussed and business attended to. Musical items were rendered very sweetly by Miss Claire Russell. The competition for the best bowl of chrysanthemums was won by Mrs. Anderson, it being very hard to decide between the four or five best ; exhibits. A display of articles made from something old, resulted in some very useful and pretty articles being shown, including aprons from flour bags, toys from inner tubes, rain capes from old coats, book-ends fi;om bricks and a splendid milk strainer from an old tea tin. A delicious ■ afternoon tea was served by the hosi tesses, Mesdames McDonald and Walters. A very pleasant meeting cont eluded with the singing of the Nau tional Anthem,

School Committee

The monthly meeting of the Onga Onga School Committee was held in the school-room on Friday night, Mr. Beuck presiding. Accounts totalling £7 14s 5d w’ere passed for payment. A memo, in connection with the incurring of expenses without the Board’s approval -was read and discussed. Other business of a routine nature was dealt with.

Football Field

The Domain Trustees have erected on the Domain goal posts for the football field which was pegged out some time ago. The school boys will now have a most convenient playing field next door to the school.

Personal

Mr. V. Barton and his son, Roger, visited the district during the latter part of the week. Sister Russell is at present spending the holidays with her parents.

The friends of Mrs. Ray Parker will be sorry to learn that she has been admitted as a patient to the Waipukurau Public Hospital. Miss Brewer, Dannevirke, is the guest of Mrs. G. Coles. Miss K. Coles is spending her holi-

days at home. Miss Thomson is at present the guest of Mrs. J. Cram'.
