FIRE AT OTANE
HOMESTEAD DESTROYED OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE The 12-roomed residence of Mr John McCartin, a well-known fanner on the Argyll Road, Otane, was completely destroyed by fire at 5.45 yesterday morning. The occupants escaped in their night attire. Mr McCartin had only recently made extensive improvements to his home and has lost everything. The flames, the origin of which is not known, were first discovered by a maid, who woke to find the house almost com pletely enveloped. She promptly aroused the rest of the household, who made a hurried exit through windows not a moment too soon. They had an exceedingly narrow escape. Particulars of the insurances are not known at present.
