UNEMPLOYMENT TAX
CRITICISM ANSWERED
REPLY BY DEPARTAIENT,
(Per Press Association)
WELLINGTON, This Day
A reply is given to a correspondent in the “Evening Post” to-day who, as a taxpayer, wants an explanation of the unemployment fund destination in view of the fact that he is taxed four times on what he was previously. The department points out that the correspondent has failed to realise that the Unemployment Board's income is now solidly dependent on the emergency charge whereas in the past its expenditure has been subsidised pound for pound from the consolidated fund.
