A Dull Sale

WITH LOW PRICES.

AT WAIPUKURAU YESTERDAY

The demand for stock was again slack at yesterday’s weekly sale, and as a consequence there was a further slight drop on last week’s values. The yarding was small, comprising about 81 head of cattle, and a few pens of sheep. There was a good attendance of buyers and weather conditions were reminiscent of summer —still the prices did not firm. Bidding was quiet on an unsteady market. Tat Cattle One entry in this section, namely two Jersey cows, which though certainly carrying condition, could hardly be designated as fat. The price paid was £4 12/6. Store Cattle Prices were easier on an entry that showed a sprinkling of quality sorts. The majority were sold, but at values hardly satisfactory, in fact, several of the lots disposed of were a distinct snip at the money. Prices were: 31 P.A. 2 year-old steers were passed in at £3 10/-; 2 good conditioned Shorthorn heifers, almost killable, went at £4 4/. j 3 Shorthorn steers, quality beasts, £6 2/-; 2 empty ShorthornHereford cross heifers £3 5/-; and I steer £3 6/- passed; 19 2 year P.A. heifers, one earmark, passed in no bid. Dairy Cattle A bigger entry than last week and with prices about on a par. Some good dairy Jersey cattle were forwarded. The demand at the outset was slow but as the better quality stuff was put up, it improved and at times became spirited. The best prices in this section were springing cows £6 12/6. £6 10/and £B, heifers £3 2/6 and £3 5/-. Values were: Four dairybred Jersey heifers a good line, brought £4 15/- and £4 2/6: 4 dairy weaner Jersey heifers wore knocked down at £2 15/-; 1 Jersey cow, due to calve in two weeks, £6 12/6; 2 Jersey heifers empty, £3 2/6 and £2; 1 Holstein and Jersey cross heifer £3 5/-; 1 Jersey cross cow, guaranteed. £6 10/-; 1 Jersey cow, sound and quiet and on the drop, £B. Bulls A number of pedigreed Jersey and Shorthorn bulls were offered, and met with a mixed reception and fluctuating prices. Values were: 1 three year old Jersey bull, guaranteed, from pedigree cow, was passed in at £4 5/-; 1 5 year pedigreed Jersey bull, a prizewinner and sound and quiet, bred by Pilcher at Raumate, sold at 84 gns; 1 Jersey bull, £7 5/-; 4 pedigreed Shorthorn bulls, sold as follows: 3 year old 64 guineas, 2 year old 4 gns, passed, (5 gns wanted), and one other yearling, passed at 3 gns. Sheep The sheep entry comprised four pens of stores, of mixed quality. Here again prices slid in keeping with the general tone of the market. Ewe hoggets made 10/2; wether hoggets 10/3 and woolly ewes 9/-. Values were: 55 woolly ewe hoggets, a good line, but on the small side. 10/2; 40 woolly wether hoggets .10/3; 65 f. and f. heavy woolled ew'es 9/-: 25 ewe hoggets 14/6. passed in.
