Representative Cricket

CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN H.B. A WIN FOR THE VISITORS. At Central Park yesterday a representative cricket match was played between Central Hawke't? Bay and Southern Hawke's Bay, play resulting in a win for the later by a faixly substantial margin. The game, taken all through was keen and interesting, with the wicket in good order, and the outfield fast. Excellent fielding by both teams kept the game at high pitch, with batsmen intent on making the most of their innings. Southern Hawke’s Bay took first stand at the wicket and lost no time in building themselves in securely, by compiling a total of 159 runs. Sinclair with 22 runs had the best individual score, whilst Edge and Herbert, each with 20 to their credit were next on the list. Pickard, before succumbing to a straight ball from L. McCarthy, struck 18, and Smith, when caught by Monteith off Guy, had run up a total of 15 runs. Three batsmen had a score of 13 runs, a number considered unlucky, and which in their case did prove unlucky, for each was out on his thirteenth run. Bowling against the Southerners, Spencer took one wicket for 21 runs, McCarthy two for 33, and Guy 6 for 42.

Central Hawke’s Bay made 91 runs, on their first innings, T. Wallace being top scorer -with a total of 22 runs, T. Spencer following him with 20, whilst L. McCarthy with 12, was third on the list. The wickettakers for the Southern team were Stewart, with one for eight, Quigley one for ten, and Craven eight for 52. Following are the details: — SOUTHERN H. 8.. / First Innings. Edge, b L.
