NEW ZEALAND’S FINE WIN. THE KIRK WINDEYER CUT. (Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. New Zealand won the Kirk Windeyer Cup by four and a half matches to one an a half —two wins in the foursomes ami two wins and a squared match to New Zealand, and one win and one squared match to New South Wales. Following are results of today's play, New Zealand names being mentioned first: —

Horton and Lee Brown, all square. ’ MacFarlane beat Keane, two up. Ross beat Dobson, live up. Black lost to Hattersley, five down. Two features of the Kirk Windeyer Cup matches to-day were the splendid lighting games by Horton and MacFarlane, both of whom appeared this afternoon to have lost all chance of winning. Horton was six down with ten holes to play, and at about the same stage of the match, MacFarlane was four down. Horton made a miraculous recovery, indeed, and missed by an inch a putt which would have given him a win on the last green. He came home- in 34 with a bad six in his score, so that he played eight of the last nine holes in 28. He started the afternoon round four down. He failed to recover any of the lost holes early, and presently lost two more. Then he settled to play his best golf, and fortunately for him Lee Brown failed to sustain his morning brilliance. The New South Wales man had a score of 74 in the morning round, and went out in the afternoon in 37, but took 40 to come home. This last nine holes left the chances open, and Horton seized every one. MacFarlane set out one down against Kean, having scored 7.1 to Kean’s <0 the morning. Coming home, however, MacFarlane notched par figures (35), and his young opponent, probably feeling the strain, slipped a little.
