I That a “little learning is a dangerj ous thing” was brought home the other day to ,two young ladies, not a 'hundred miles from Balclutha (says -the Clutha Press). The story is that , a certain gentleman, not unknown in ' professional circles, and who is in- | dined to be bald, was being entertained at tea by the parents of the young ladies referred to. During the j course of the meal one young lady • remarked to the other in Latin. ‘How would you like to marry a I bald-headed man?” Imagine her emI barrassment when the gentleman re- • plied in the same language, ‘lt’s manners to wait until you are asked.” It 1 would appear that Latin is not as , “dead” as it is said to be. ■ There were 9400 books published in Great Britain last year, including 1658 novels.
