London Air Manoeuvres
THREE MACHINES CRASH. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. LONDON, Aug. 18. The ail' manoeuvres had an exciting conclusion to-night, when three of the planes crashed in various parts of London. The first, a single-seater, descended in flames, between Kew and Richmond. To the consternation of the watching crowds, black smoke was seen issuing from it. Then the pilot jumped out, and fell like a stone for a considerable distance, when his paiachute opened, and he landed safely on a roof. The plane crashed in flames, "which burnt out. Other planes participating turned and hovered over the spot until the c »mmander, realising that their colleague was safe, flew away. A large bomber, carrying out a raid at Kilbrooke, Essex, was forced to land, in a field, with a broken oil pipe. The observer was unhurt. A third machine crashed at Canvey Island, but thee occupants were unhurt.
