N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.

H.B. ACTIVITIES. The first mooting of the special sub committee .appointed by the Farmers’ Union Executive, in the interests of swine husbandry, was held in the Farmers’ Union Room, Dannevirke, recently. There were present Messrs A. McLean, A. O. Mcnefy, L. T. Rice, F. Stewart, and C. IT. Blackistou, and apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. A. Anderson and L. Feirabend. Mr A. McLean was elected chairman, ami Mr C. D. Blakiston hon. secretary. This committee was appointed in response to an appeal by the Southern Hawke's Bay Pig Breeders’ Association. (which was dying of/malnutrition), to the Farmers’ Union, to take over their objective, namely the encouragement and improvement of the pig industry in this district. Members present expressed their appreciation of the action of the Farmers’ Union, and a vote of thanks was passed accordingly. It was decided to request the judge of the Pig Glasses at the forthcoming Show to give a demonstration after the judging, and also to write Mr Gorringc. Government Instructor in swine husbandry, to give a lecture on the same afternoon. Uonations to the amount of £5/5 wore passed by the chairman, including amounts from two anonymous donors, and it was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary, to submit plans for the location of same.
