The Examiner. Published MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY MONDAY, JANUARY 17. Railway Prospects.

The only thing that is certain about the present time-table is that it is giving general dissatisfaction, So much so that there is a general feeling that it will be altered as soon as it can be done with due regard to the Minister saving his face Various localities are making suggestions as to what they would wish for, but the danger is that the Departmental officials may reject even a good time-table scheme simply because it is not a scheme originated by the Department. We hope that they will be above feeling of this sort, and that they will adopt a good, satisfying time - table, no matter whether it is originated in their offices in "Wellington or somewhere - else. Last week we published the suggestions of the Napier Chamber of Commerce, and we noticed in one of last week’s Wellington papers a statement that the Taranaki mail train is to revert to its old time-table. We think there is possibly something in the latter statement, as the Minister promised the Taranaki people an alteration in their mail train when they objected to the present timetable on its appearance. As far as Woodville is concerned, if the Napier suggestions were adopted, and the Taranaki train restored to its old time-table, we should have very little to complain of. We should have communication with Wellington arriving here at one o’clock, as the Taranaki train would connect with the train leaving Palmerston at twelve for Woodville. Main Trunk and Home mails would arrive at two o’clock by the proposed express for Napier, and so would be distributed on the afternoon of arrival. The refreshment rooms would be a scene of activity again, as the passengers from Napier would dine there. Going from Woodville, we could arrive at either Napier or Wellington at a little after six in the evening. If, in addition to these alterations, the old train leaving about 2.40 were restored, it would be possible for Wairarapa passengers to catch the Main Trnnk express without wearisome delay, and then, as far as Woodville is concerned, the time-table would be Icapai.
