GOSPEL HYMN BOOK. Mr T. Shaw Fitchett, the publisher of the New Idea, Melbourne, has favoured us with a copy of Mr Charles Alexander’s “Gospel Hymn Book.” Mr Alexander is the singing evangelist, who, in conjunction with Dr Wilbur Chapman, is now conducting the great revival mission meetings in Australia at the present time, and included in the collection are the favorites of the Dr Terry-Alex-ander Mission, “ The Glory Song,” “ I surrender All,” etc. One of its notable features is the inclusion of many hymns written for Mr Alexander by his brilliant Australian pianist, Mr Robert Harkness, of Bendigo. The new hymn book is finely printed on high quality paper, the music is beautifully clear, and the binding is most attractive. Those of our readers who would like to procure a copy of the “Gospel Hymn Book ” can do so by writing to the Melbourne publisher. The price is Is 5d (post paid). THE NEW ZEALAND FARMER We compliment the proprietors of the New Zealand Farmer, which is published in Auckland, on the special fruit-growers number they have published for the month of June. It is announced that a similar edition will be published annually. The edition under notice is splendidly compiled, and contains many beautiful illustrations of specimen fruits which have been grown in the Dominion, together with photos of some of our best known orchards in both Islands. There is one astonishing picture, and that is the one showing a pit with 30 tons of beautiful Stunner Pippins in it. They were grown in an orchard belonging to Messrs Guthrie Bros., at Havelock, and are the produce of 111 trees only. Mr Nottage, the Government pomologist for Hawke’s Bay, was in Woodville yesterday, and told a representative of The Examiner that the father of Messrs Guthrie Bros, got disgusted with the orchard, not being able to cope with the codlin moth pest, and threatened to cut all the trees down. The sons asked to have it, and they immediately proceeded to systematically treat the orchard for this pest. All they used was Swift’s arsenate of lead, and the result was most astonishing. The June number of the N.Z. Farmer is specially interesting to would-be growers and those already established in the fruit-growing industry and wo strongly recommend them all securing copies of the paper.
