WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE.

SECOND DAY.

[By our Resident Reporter ] . The Conference resumed at 10 o’clock on Wednesday.

The first business taken was the consideration of the reports of the treasarer of the province and the organiser. These were dealt with in committee. The election of office bearers was then proceeded with. Mr J. G. Wilson was unanimously re-elected president, and Mr J, C. Cooper vice-president. The executive committee was appointed as follows :

Messrs J. Peat (Wanganui), H. J. Richards (Te Horo), Guthrie (Rangiwahia), Capiain Hewitt (Palmerston North) W, J. Birch (Marton), E. Newman (Marton), J. L. McLennan (Waituna West), the president, Mr J. G. Wilson, and treasurer, Mr W. Stubbs, W. Perry (Masterton), R. Smith (Pahiatua), J. O. Bidwill (Featherston), A. McFarlane (Konini), H. A. Nevins (Te Nui), W. B» Matheson (Eketahuna), and the vicepresident (Mr J. C, Cooper). The following remits were then dealt with:—

“ That in districts through which the railway line passes, and the land taken up is three chains wide, the Government be asked to grant permission to the occupier of the land adjoining the railway line the right to plant trees inside the railway fences, said plantation to be subject to the control of the railway authorities.”—Defeated. “That the Government be asked to release Local Bodies from the levies that are now made upon them for the maintenance of bridges on main roads. —Defeated.

“ That the Government be pointed out the advisability of placing one of the Government veterinary surgeons in the Bush District, it being one of the largest dairying districts in the colony.” After discussion, the following amendment was carried: “ That the Government be asked to make no appointment as stock inspector unless the candidate has passed such examination in veterina.y subjects as MrGilruth recommends.*' “ That the Mortgage Indemnity Tax is irritating and unnecessary, and the Government be asked to amend the law so that those who insure their workers once against accidents are not compelled to pay a double tax.”—■Referred to Colonial Executive.

‘‘That a special Accident Insurance Policy be drawn up in the interests of farmers, covering all their general risks, apart from contract work.”—Referred to Colonial Executive. “ That it be a recommendation to the Farmers’ Union the advisability of selling beef by weight, instead of per bead as at present.” —Lost.
