Natal Native Trouble.

AN ENGAGEMENT. 80 REBELS KILLED. THE ZULU RISING. Pietermaritzburg, May 30. Leuchar’s two squadrons of Umooti Mounted Bifles proceeded to Cokinyoni Hill, on the Zululand side of Buffalo, and surprised a party of rebels, killing eight. Leuchar’s force then camped on the hill, being joined by Sibindi’s impi. They were attacked at half-past five in the morning by six hundred Fakus, Mehloka, Zulus and Mtelis rebels, who approached under good cover. When the enemy reached within fifty yards they received a heavy rifle fire and retreated.

Fifty-seven rebels were killed in the fight, ' thirteen more in a subsequent pursuit. One rifleman was killed and three other whites were wounded. The friendlies fought excellently. They expelled the enemy from a donga where they were sheltering. Leuchar’s squadron then returned to Krantzkop.
