Methodist Church.
ANNIVERSARY SERVICES,
The Anniversary Services in connection with the Methodist Church were held yesterday, and wore largely attended. The preacher for the day was the Rev. Mr Lewis, of Palmerston North. Mr Lewis ranks among the most eloquent preachers of the Methodist Churchy and his sermons yesterday were listened to with rapt attention. The discourse in the evening was especially interesting, the text being taken from the 18th and 19th verses of the 4th chapter of St. Luke, “ To preachtbe acceptable year of the Lord.” The music was appropriate to the festival, and was splendidly rendered by the choir under the'conductor* ship of Mr A. E. Lawrence. Gosb* beautiful anthem, “ The Day Tbon Gavest ” was rendered at the evening service. Special mention must be made of the two hymns sang to the old Methodist tunes. These served to remind many of the old people amongst the congregation of their childhood’s days. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion, flowers and evergreens being used in profusion.
, The Anniversary Soiree will be held in the Church this -evening. Tea will be on the table at six o’clock.
