A Dangerous Fanatic.
TROUBLE FEARED. Rotorua, May 10. A Maori named Eua, styling himself prophet and brother of Jesus Christ, is causing considerable unrest among the natives at Whakatane district. A large number arc following him from place to place. He claims he can heal the sick, restore the sight, and raise the dead if not dead more than two hours. Ho tells the natives that King Edward 7th will ho in Gisborne on 25th June. The natives are very excited, and say that the* Pakt-ha will be driven olf the land when the King arrives. A large house is to be built in Gisborne for the now Messiah and the King, to cost three millions.
Numbers of natives are selling horses, cattle, and crops to raise money to follow the prophet. It is reported live hundred are following him now, and many of them have volunteered, armed with modern firearms. It is feared the result will be a breach of the peace. Rua is a sou of Te Kooti.
