HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Industries jnd Commerce has received ihe following cable from the High Commissioner,, dated London, April 28th, 1906 : The mutton market is quiet, the supply meeting demand. There is* only a small supply of light weights on hand, Canterbury brands averaging 4|d per lb. Heavy Canterbury and North Island brands are quoted at 3fd per 10. There Is a large quantity of ewes ou hand. The average price for this class is 8d per lb. Australian mutton is quoted at 3|:d. per lb. There are heavy stocks of lambon hand, and the market is weak im sympathy. The weather lately has been unfavourable to the sale of lamb, and as Urge shipments are expected to arrive, there is an inclination to force sales. The average price of Canterbury lamb is 4£d per lb, other than Canterbury 4£d, and Australian is quoted at B|d per lb. The beef market is dull. Supplies from the River Plate are he&aVy. The average price of New Zealand hindquarters is 3£d per lb, a.nd forequarters 2£d per lb. The butter market is stoadv, and prices are well maintained. New Ze -Und butler is giving sutisfaction to buyers. Stocks ou hand are moderate, and the average price of choice New Zealand is 10 Is, Danish 108 s, Siberian 965, Australian 975, Argentine 975. The cheese market is quiet, and prices are slightly wewker. New Zealand white makes i»re selling at 61s, and colored at GS* pev cwt. The hemp raarbrit is dull, and prices are irregular,, caused bv heavy arrivals expected. New Zealand beans, f.a.q., old crops, are quoted at 85s per 5041 b, with a firm but uuadvanced market. New Zealand partridge and blue peas are quoted at 42s 6d and 37s 6d respectively per 5041 b, with firm market, owing to reduced supplies.
