INSTALLATION OF MAYOR,

The ceremony of installing JM r H. Barnett aa Mayor of the Borough was performed this afternoon. CrMcKibbin, who occupied she chair, congratulated the Borough on the reelection without opposition of Mr Burnett for the third year. This, coupled with the fact that Mr Burnett had occupied the office on a former occasion for a similar period, shewed, in Or MoKibbin’s opinion, how much confidence the burgesses had in him to act as its Mayor. Or Shaw also spoke. He stated his Opinion that it was a fortunate thing that there had been no contest at Mr Burmtt had all the Borough affairs at his fingers’ ends, and, besides, no one else would have stood any chance against him. He (Cr Shaw) expressed gratification at the good feeling which prevailed between the Mayor and Councillors.

Mr Burnett, having made the necessary declaration, took his seat as Mayor. He briefly returned thanks for the Tindly remarks of Cra McKibbin and Shaw. He had he stated, intended to make a few remarks on the question of Borough finance, but owing to the hour being an awkward one for Councillors, would reserve them until the ordinary meeting.
