Cricket Match.

WEST ENDEKS V. THE CLUB. One of the most interesting and delightful games of cricket over played on the Woodville ground was that played on Saturday afternoon between elevens representing the Club and Upp-r McLean street, better known as the “ Westenders.” The weather was simply perfect, the heat of the son’s rays being tempered all the afternoon by a gentle breeze. The match resulted in a decided victory for the dub, but this was owing to one or two of the Westenders being completely knocked out of the game with hurt fingers, legs, &c., and all the luck being on the side of the Club. Mouteith was top scorer in the match, but he had nearly as many "lives” as a cat is said to possess—he was badly missed being caught on six occasions. However, the game all through was played in the most friendly spirit, and the barrackers for both sides (mostly ladies) had a real good time. There was great excitement when the Club wanted throe runs to win and had two wickets to fall. Without the score being added to Monteith was again badly missed. There was a large attendance to witness the match, and amongst the distinguished visitors were Mr C. Hall, M.H.8., Mr Gilruth (chief Government Vet.) and Dr Btapley (Stock Department). Mrs Grant dispensed afternoon tea, which was highly appreciated. Mr Bagley captained the Club team, and Mr M. 11, Grant the Wesieudets. The latter won the toss and elected to bat. He and Taylor faced the bowling of Monteith and Martin. Taylor should have been caught the first ball he hit. He sent it to square leg, who managed to drop it, and Tayl r showed Iris gratitude by running up a good score of 27, which were compiled in faultless manner. The other batsmen did not trouble the bowlers much, and the innings ended for GO. Tne Club responded with 82, the highest scorers being Monteith 23, Ross and Bowie 13 each, and C. G. Scott 11.
