St. David’s Church.
SPECIAL SERVICES. Special services* having reference to the induction of the pastor of St. David’s Church, Mr Hill, were conducted yesterday by the Rev. J. A. Asher, of Napier. At both morning and evening services there were very large congregations, the capacity of the church being severely taxed. At the morning service the Sacrament was administered. Twenty new members were enrolled, and there was the largest number of communicants that have ever taken the Sacre" ment in St, David’s Church. Mr Asher preached a powerful sermon upon the text “ Jesus in the midst.” In the evening the text was, “ For me to live is Christ.” The music throughout the day was of a very bright and hearty nature. The Induction Service. At three o’clock to-morrow afternoon the induction of Mr Hill to the eldership of the church will take place. There will be several members of the Hawke’s Bay Presbytery present. The Social. In the evening a social will be held in the Foresters’ Hall in celebration of Mr Hill’s induction. A first-class musical programme has been arranged, and there will be addresses by several ministers. Refreshments will be provided by the ladies of the congregation.
