Napier, July 2, Edward Randall, with various aliases, was arrested last night on a charge or being concerned in breaking and entering the Onga Onga store and stealing goods to the value of £SO. It is alleged the accused stole a horse aud drove with the goods to Te Aute station where he consigned them to Napier. On arrival here he removed them to his lodgings, where the police arrested him.
At the Court to-day Peter Taylor was fined £lO, in default two months imprisonment for playing poker dice on the Park racecourse. Francis Fitzpatiick was fined £2O, in default two months imprisonment for laying tutalisator odds. Wellington, This day. At an Oppositon caucus yesterday Mr Lewis was elected Whip and a plan of campaign was prepared. The election of a leader was postponed. About 25 members were present. Chetstchuech, July 2. Maurice Wheeler, 50 years of age, a farmer at Eiccarton, was found dead on the north railway line, a hundred yards from a crossing in St. Albans, lying face downwards. His scaly was clean broken and his brains were protruding. He is supposed to have been run over or fallen off last night's train from the city to Rangiora.
