The pupil teachers went to Napier today for the annual examination, and in consequence the school work is being carried on with reduced staff.

I have received a telegram from Mr Hill stating that the ’‘Dux” for the year was Master Ira Dobbie.

A blackboard is required for the classroom at the Side School.

I would again respectfully request that the windows in the main room of the Side School be attended to; also that the cobwebs be removed from the ceiling, as they give the building an untidy appearance. I would suggest that if your committee cannot asphalt the playground in front of the school, the metalled portion of the boy’s playground might be tarred and sanded. This would be a very great convenience, for both boys and girls are drilled in this particular portion of the playground. Mr O’Meara, M.H.R , has very kindly forwarded to the school some green cocoanuts and a piece of sugar cane which he procured at Fiji. The children were very much interested and expressed their pleasure by carrying by acclamation a vote of thanks to Mr O’Meara. ACTION ON THE REPORT. That the local stationers be asked for tenders for stationery for the year, Mr Stevenson to furnish particulars. That the Board be applied to for blackboard.
