Ladies’ Benevolent Society.

♦ The annual meeting of the above Society was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday afternoon, at three o’clock. The attendance was fair. In the absence of the President, Mrs E. Hall was voted to the chair. The Secretary road the minutes of the former meeting, which were confirmed. The balance-sheet for the year was read and adopted, and was as follows : RECEIPTS. £ s. cl. Wo assisted during the last year to send one case to the liotorua Sanatorium, and I am glad to .say that the patient returned to Woodvillo much boneii i tod by her treat me m there. Our thanks are due to Mr Hall, M.H.R., ior his assistance in this matter. The recent terrible disaster at the Brunner mine demands our serious consideration, and I think it would ho well for us to consider the best means in our power in which we can assist the movement for providing for those loft destitute by this fearful calamity. Our thanks are due to the Borough Council for granting us the use of the Council Chambers for our meetings, also to Mr Crawford for tho groat assistance ho has so cheerfully given to our Society, and also Mr Richolson lor auditing tho accounts. in giving up my position as President I have to thank you all for your kindness and forbearance towards me during tho past year, and to apologise for many shortcomings on my part. The old Committee were reelected, with the addition of Mesdames Manisty, Crawford, and Wrigley. Tho following oHiccvs for the year were appointed :--President, Mrs Burnell; Vice-president,Mrs Elides ; aud Secretary, Mrs Barkwith.

An applicant from Knmeroa was granted further relief pending arrange'. ,:nts wi.h the almoner of the Charitable Aid Hoard. Another applicant was granted 2 pairs of bools, {Special votes of thanks were passed to Mr Crawford for keeping the accounts for the year, and to Mr Win. Nicholson as auditor, A vote of thanks was passed to the Mayor aud Borough Councillors for kindly lending the use of the Council room for holding their meetings. New subscriptions handed to the Treasurer, £7 Hs. Accounts amounting to £1 11s 9d were passed for payment. The meeting then adjourned.
