Waipawa County Council.

The Waipaw’a Council met on Friday. The first business was when Cr Stone moved “ That a special order be passed dissolving the Ruataniwha road district and merging the same into the county.” Cr Cook seconded the motion, which was carried. CORRESPONDENCE. Subsidies had been received of £296 7s lid and £23331 Is Id. The Land aud Survey Department provided a complete list of all sections in the County held from the Crown, and it was resolved that all omitted names be compiled and and presented to the next meeting. Mr W. C. Smith, for the Waipawa Licensing Committee, wrote explaining the vouchers objected to at last meeting.—Received. Letters were read from Mr W. Robinson, chairman Makotuku Domain Board, protesting against the Council taking a road through a recreation reserve, vested in them by Order-in-Couucil. Cr. Sidey explained that the section was leased at £7 yearly to keep another reserve in order. The Council was asked to make a road that was absolute necessary to give access to his property. Cr. Jull moved that the overseer be authorised to ascertain if there is a legal road through section 66 or not. D. Stuart asked for payment for rescuing a woman and child who were sitting on a loaded dray crossing a bridge on Umatoaroa-Dauevirke road at the time it collapsed, and remained all night till 10 a.m. next morning to stop traffic, and fenced approaches aud other jobs, and also spoiled a pair of trousers. Received. The claim should have been to'the Road Board. overseer’s report. Action followed as under : On Woodville riding Cr Crosse said a further groin was required in Manga-atua Creek,. Harding’s Road, which was authorised ; also a small wash-out at Mauawatu Bridge near Kumeroa to be attended to. WAGES. Cr Crosse also called attention to the fact that the Council is paying a higher rate of wages than any other County in the Colony. Cr Jull said they -were only paying 7s, and the whole amount was not £SO a year. Cr Crosse said all the stations were only paying 5s for one or two days’ work at a time, and that the .maintenance contracts were based on the price paid by the Council for day work. The question then dropped. GENERAL. A contract in Mangatoro Valley not being certified by the overseer as completed, a portion only of the voucher was ordered to be passed for payment. A discussion took place about the delay of proceedings against persons in arrears of rates, the tendency of which was that the officers concerned did not move quick enough. Cr Sidey moved that the Norsewood toll-bar he reinstated, with the condition that no ratepayers in the county shall pay tolls.—Lost by 6 to 3. OVERSEER. After lunch the Council went into committee, and on resuming the' Chairman reported that the choice of the Committee was Mr William Bogle for the assistant overseership, and Mr Robert Baker as assistant clerk. There were 27 applications for the first position, aud nine for the clerkship.
