Shanghai, August It. One of the murderers confesses to cutting off the head'and thumbs of Mrs Stewart, who in frenzy fought until literally hacked to pieces. August 12. Foreign residents in Kientsin declare the Kucheng massacre was the natural outcome of thirty years’ mistaken leniency. Platonic measures will he futile. The Times correspondent at Kientsin says there will be ■worse to follow unless the Powers take a determined stand with the Chinese Government.
