Salvation Army.

A large crowd assembled at the Bailway Station yesterday afternoon to see the arrival of the Australian Guard's Band who were passing through to Pahiatua. To-morrow (Saturday) they open their campaign in Woodville when no doubt they will give a good account of themselves, and we believe the success which has so far characterised their meetings in other places will in no wise be diminished here. The meetings will be held in the Alexandra Hall, which has been secured for three days. Interest will also be added to the meetings by the reception of the new leader for the Colony, Brigadier Hosking, lately arrived from South Australia. The Brigadier is a splendid specimen of young Australia, turning the scale at 14st., and his long connection with the Army makes him specially fitted for the position he occupies. Previous to the advent of the Army, he was a successful business man in Ballarat, carrying on a large boot-making establishment. He was also a very prominent person in the cricket and football fields, and a member of the Fire Brigade, but a few months after his conversion sold his business and went out as an officer in the Army, and for over twelve years has occupied a leading position in their ranks. There are nineteen members in the Band, and the meetings will last till Monday evening.
