On Wednesday night the first entertainment in aid of the prize fund of Sturdy's Eoad School was hold, and was a great success. The night was beautifully fine, and visitors came from as far as Woodville and Danevirke, till the schoolroom was crowded. The building was prettily decorated for the occasion. Mr Haggen presided. The programme opened with an overture by Mrs Burmester, the clever pianiste.of Danevirke. Mr Cbadwick is always a great favorite, and his get-up as a roaster to suit the comic song he sang was a source of intense fun for the audience. Mr Cbadwick had, of course to re-appear to a hearty encore. Mr McAlpine is a valuable addition to the local talent of Danevirke, and in response to an enthusiastic recall he sang " Our Jack's come home again." The Misses Tansley were accorded a hearty recall for their duet. Mr Cbadwick was again enthusiastically recalled for his comic song. Mrs Tansley was also deservedly recalled, but bowed her acknowledgement. Master Tansley's iieni again brought down the house, and he had to return; while Miss McLardy was heartily cheered for her Gaelic song, in which she had as much the advantage of her audience as the Hon. John McKenzie had over the House of Representatives last session. On the motion of Mr Grainger, seconded by Mr C. Smith, hearty votes of thanks were accorded to those who had assisted at tho entertainment and to th« Chairman.
