The settlers took advantage of the recent fine weather to burn their bush, with good results in almost every instance, and some arc busy sowing their grass seed, so as to have winter feed for their stock.
Mr J. Smith has purchased Mr LondorfTs property on the Otawhao road, at six pounds ten shillings per acre, and I believe negotiations have been entered into for the sale of Mr .!» McDonald’s fa in to a party from the South, who intends to start a dairy factory, and ship his but er to England, in the event of his purchasing. Mr Lynch, who intends leaving the district, is offering all his properties for sale.
Some very fine trout have been caught in the Manawatu, near our village, weighing up to seven pounds. I hear that a number of “ boomers ” have been seen latel-, so the enthusiastic discip'es ol Isaac Walton wull have good sport during the season.
