INTERPROVINCIAL.
Auckland, Thursday. Arrived — Kenilworth, from Samoa. She brings the mate of the schooner Enigma, wrecked at Gilbert's Group, on the 11th of August. The crew were brought in to Samoa, by a German brig. Captain Clark, - formerly of Auckland,' and one of the crew, were burned to death by the explosion of a kerosene lamp, and the vessel's being on fire, about a month prior to the wreck. Sailed — Phcebe, for South. The Anazi case was continued to-day. Alfred Schemer and Charles Guthray, seamen, stated that they were positive Captain Holrnah. was drunk on the night of the accident. Edward Farrell, a seaman, said he saw the captain strike at the mate and second mate with a knuckleduster. Farrell said he did not consider the captain was properly drunk, because he did not. lie down, but managed to keep his feet. Harold Wise, chief officer, was examined and said that, after passing inside Tiritiri lighthouse, they had a leading wind from N.E, and the vessel bore S.W. Her. proper course should have been S. by E. The captain instructed him to heave-to for the night. Daniel Primrose was next examined, and he stated that the captain was under the influence of liquor during the night of the accident. 8 p.m. Arrived — Murray, from South. Nelson, Thursday. Mr Mackay, C.E., has just returned from Collingwood, and reports that the Para Para Company's iron field is the most extensive of its kind he ever saw, and he says he has seen jaost of those in Great Britain. ' Christchurch, Thursday. The Boards of the Governors of the Canterbury College this afternoon unanimously passed resolutions adopting the report presented in favor of making, with the Otago University, a joint application for affiliation with the New Zealand University.
