Outside the Wangnnui Her.ds says tho Wanganui Times opposite the flagstaff station, more than twenty years ago, lay tho schooner " Edward Stanley," then commanded by Captain T. B. Taylor, now of tho firm of Taylor & Watt of this town. Ho anchored, awaiting a fair breeze to onter the river. When that sprung up he gave his orders and the men began to " heave anchor" but to the dismay of the Captain and all hands the chain cracked llio anchor sunk, and the " Edward Stanley" began to drift. Captain Taylor brought tho vessel up the river leaving the anchor behind. Subsequently the supposed spot where the anchor was lost was dragged, but no traces of it could be found. On Thursday last tLo schooner Tyne, belonging to the firm of Taylor & Watt, commanded by Captain Odgers, was obliged to anchor on the samo spot, and for a like purpose, awaiting a fair wind tu> enter the river. On giving orders to weigh anchor his men found an extraordinary weight attached which eventually proved to bo tho anchor and chain of tho " Edward Stanley" lost there as above stated over twenty years ago. The prize was hauled on dock and on tho " Tyne" reaching Wanganui was at once recognised by Captian Taylor as his long lost property. It is little the worse being protected by a coat of barnacles.
