QUEENSLAND.

Brisbane, 12th November. A most atrocious outrage has just been brought to light. Troopers Cahill and Power, who composed the escort from Roekhampton to Clermont diggings, -were dispatched to the latter place a few days ago ; but not having reached their destination, a search I was instituted, and the bodies of the two men were found in their tent, the money vrhich they had in their possession, to the amount of £'1000, having been taken by the murderers. A post mortem examination showed thafc the unfortunate men had been poisoned. Maryborough, November 12. Later news has been received from the Mary River goldfields, and the prospects are decidedly improved. As is the case wifch all new goldfield, there are a large number of men who leave tho field disgusted almost as soon as they havo reached the ground, but those who have gone there with the determination to give it a fair trial, speak well of the appearances. Some of them have obtained a large quantity of gold, and there are others now making good wages Avhile some of course are doing nothing. Lately a quartz reef was struck on these diggings, and so far has been paying ; but the great want is water, for which tho digger has to travel a distance of aboufc a mile. Brisbane, 13fch November. Further particulars respecting the murder of tlie escort troopers liave been received, stating that both Avere shot through the head. An inquiry is proceeding. The late police magistrate at Clermont has been arrested on suspicion. Rich reefs, extending over three miles of country, have been discovered at Gymphy Creek.
