TOUCHY LITTLE SCRIBBLERS.

Little men are notoriously touchy, and it seems that little papers are equally so, to judge from tho manner in which some romarks of ours have affected the equanimity of the JEvening Post, We gave that journal somo " hints on etiquette," wiih reference to copying Mr Fox's letter from our columns, without acknowledgement. We charitably supposed that ifc was done ia ignorance, and because it was " young and inexperienced," forgave tho JEvening Post and lot it down very gently. But the JEvening Post declares that it " objects to be ridden over rough-shod," especially when it is at the same time made " the subject of our witless shafts," and forgetting tho proverb that " the way to good manners i 8 never too late," refuses to acknowledge its error, and having done wrong once, says it will "do tho same thing again." The way in which our " perky" little contemporary hits out is amusingly energetic though far from scientific. He admires our " impudence," but cennot " endorse" it; ho won't be patronised, ho won't be called young, and he would'nt be the least bit like us— no not if it was never so — a nasty odgus thing that we are. In fact, we can almost hear the shrill treble of vituperation as we read tho article to which we refer. Tho writer is very angry, and his anger is very funny. As is often the case with violent and vulgar people, he can only resort to indiscriminate abuse. We hurt his self-love and he tries to hurt ours by calling us all manner of names and by saying that we are everything that is bad. He tells us that our " only recommendation is alack of ability, a want of courtesy, and a love of Billingsgate," which if true, is strange. We maybe like the defunct "Dunedin Saturday Review " without knowing it, and it may be correct; to say thafc we aro now " without a colleague in New Zealand." All we know for certain is that we differ from the JEvening Post in our opinion of what is the etiquetto of journalism, and we have no wish to follow its example.
