OTAGO.

The Daily Times of the 10th inst. says : — The markets throughout the week have been quiet, the continued inclemency of the weather having contributed considerably to keep business dull. To the interior supplies still continue to be forwarded to a lees extent than would be the case were the roads better and the cartage more abundant. Exports coastwise have also been limited, owing to the non-receipt of intelligence from the West Coa6t and other provinces, which should have been to hand in the early part of the week. The town trade and auction sales hare been moderately good, but without much of the speculative element. Flour — Adelaide has slightly receeded, £23 to £23 10s is accepted, but the quantity taken up at the reduced figure is comparatively snail, which seems likely to continue the case while, the market is well supplied with other sorts. The cargo of Chilian to hand, per Eleanor Wood, is reported to have been placed by Messrs M'Landers Hepburn and Co. in one line, but the price at which it changed hands has been withheld ; and some other parcels have been quitted at prices which have not been disclosed. In sugars the transactions have chiefly been by auctioh, some parcels of low and medium Jatas and Mauritius counters meeting with purchasers at rather low rates as compared with private sales made a few days previous. Teas have been dealt in sparingly, withoxit any alteration in price. Spirits — No further improvement in rates for brandies of any description ; second class brands are more enquirod for, but no better rates have resulted. Case whisky have changed hands at recent values, buyor3 taking up some good sized parcels, with a view of holding. Provisions — Bacon is not so much in demand, in consequence of the limited amount of goods dispatching elsewhere, and a little easier rate has been taken for , a shipmont without hams, winch still remain scarce, and command a Itigh figure. Tobaccos j have not in any degree mended, and though parcels have been offering at rates which should induco speculation, purchasers have not respouded confining themselves only to limited lots for actual requirements. Salt has beon sold in quantity, at c price showing a considerable alteration in value. In other miscellaneous goods, quotations remain almost unchanged, the small amount of business just now doing preventing the alterations in values, which a more animated condition -would have effected. , The execution and dispatch of orders to hand lias enlivened the day's business. However, not many transactions are taking place amongst importers, nor are the auction mnr}B very bn9y. The flour market is again firmer, in consequence of its being understood that considerable shipments from hence are making. Adelaide is slowly going off, but Chilian is selling to a larger extent — £19 being the rate- for medium sized parcels, short i terms. In miscellaneous good.s, quotations aro unaltered, the only article showing much tendency to alteration being provisions, which are in request. I Mour — Adelaide has very slightly reeeeded ; £23 to £23 10s is accepted, but the quantity taken up at the reduced figure is comparatively small, which seems likely to continue the case while the market is -well supplied with other sorts. Chilian is £19 for medium sized parcels, at short terms.
